I recieved my box today, wow really impressed with the packaging. Only 4 star because I've not tried it yet but the package certainly makes you feel special. Unfortunately colour was not expected, golden brown roots with light ash blonde length

I started dyeing my hair after I turned 40 because I missed my vibrant color. My hair started getting darker toward this muddy red-brown, not the pretty gingery I had in my teens and 20s. I tried henna first as I was apprehensive of dyes and that was ok, but not the best. Then I gave up on that and at age 42, I finally dove into getting my hair dyed at the salon. The first time was perfect, the second time was a disaster. The same person did it those first two times...she did not keep notes on what she dyed my hair the first time...so the second time was WAY dark and more burgundy. I switched to dying at home and getting a product from Sally's and that turned out ok, but not really what I was wanting. I did get my hair professionally dyed one more time by someone I know and that color was fun and I liked the change, but not exactly what I really desired.
I'm 44 now. I recently found eSalon and said, "what the hell, let's try it." I gotta say, I'm really happy with the results from this first coloring. I uploaded my most recent photo so they could see my current hair color and also I uploaded a photo of what my hair used to be. I think this made all the difference. I love that I can leave notes for the colorist. My hair is long and my roots were different than my ends, so they blended me two colors...one for my roots and one for my ends...and now my hair is all the same color! I could not be happier.

I had my color adjusted after the first round because it faded quite a bit from the color I wanted. Red is difficult to keep vibrant overall so I opted to up the copper tones for the next shipment.
It was perfect. I am 4 weeks out now and it has still faded but it definitely held a longer red in the color that I wanted.

I like the color. A little difficult to follow instructions to color the roots when my hair is very thick and in many layers. End result is good, though. Please send another applicator brush with next order. I kept it from the first order, but wasn't able to find it

I came to eSalon after a failed attempt with another at home color subscription service. I made a poor color choice with the previous service, which gave me ashy ends that people thought was a failed attempt at the gray hair trend. When I provided the other color service with this feedback, hoping for help in making a better choice, the website just told me not to put hair color on my ends, and I could not find an easy way to be sure I chose a similar color with a warmer undertone on my own.
On the other hand, I felt like eSalon had a more nuanced color selection and provided a chart so that I could start with their recommendations but easily see how to push that color to a warmer less ashy shade. My color was perfect on the first try but if I wanted to tweak it, eSalon makes that easy.

So I naturally have red-copper colored hair. Started going white in spots. Went to Aveda salons twice and my hair came out wierd colors that do not exist in the real world. I like this color except it did not cover the white hairs and the I almost passed out from the ammonia smell in the shower even with the vents all going. The smell was SO strong. Yuck. Maybe my white haira are too course and hopeless.

Easy process and more accurate color this time around

The customer service was awesome. They sent me an email inquiring if my order was received (it was not) then they proceeded to send me a replacement since it had been lost. The color was adjusted this time to a darker shade and this time the color was much more accurately matched to my natural color. I notice that after about a week I can see some grey hair (not roots) visible. I am not sure if grays are tricky to take up the color or I am not saturating them enough (even though I feel like I am super saturating the grey area). I am going to try and be more particular about the application and see what happens. I also love the shampoo and conditioner provided. It makes my hair so silky smooth. I am considering trying the root cover products and ordering the shampoo and conditioner next.

I have thick hair and sent in my pic but did not have enough color to cover my greys. I did like the golden brown color but wish it was a little lighter of a brown. It was just covering my roots and just looking at what they sent I knew it wouldn't be enough!

I have had several colour kits from eSalon now and have tried to offer feedback to the colourists each time in order to achieve the shade I want. The first one I used probably came the closest but was a little too dark.
However this time I ended up disappointed with the colour result.
I am looking to achieve a mahogny shade but found this one too light - its more auburn brown than mahogany!
On a positive note the grey coverage was good and that has been the case each time.Better luck next time with my colour I hope.

The gray coverage was not as good as I had hoped. It looks like blonde highlights instead of gray though. I also got a very itchy scalp the day after coloring and a few spots that scabbed over on my scalp.

I really liked the colour. I also really liked the smell of the conditioner which is a plus but the condition of hair afterwards didn't feel as nice as previous box dyes i've used.
I would like to continue but feel for the price and considering i have long thick hair i would want/need two lots of the colour everytime not just the first time

After my 3rd order still had me feeling very disappointed and discouraged I didn't know if I was going to attempt a fourth. Since my previous color ending in results that made me live in pony tails because I hated the color so much that really had me second-guessing ordering from Esalon again. but I decided to give them one more try and was most recently had Nicole assist me and she nailed it! She actually seem to take the time to read what I wrote about what I was looking for and what I did not like about my current color and came up with such a pretty chocolate brown that I couldn't be happier with! Loving everything about my color! The only thing I'm not super happy about is the fact that it still seems to be fading fairly quickly even with me following instructions and aftercare tips to a t.

This coloring which included 2 bottles of dye was much better. It got rid of the red brassy color that the previous coloring had created.

It was so easy to do my hair at home and the instructions were so easy to follow. I just wish I hadn't let my husband chose my color and he decided I was a natural brown and not a dark blonde already. Oh well at least it covered my few gray hairs

I loved the color. I love everything measured out and packaged beautifully. It has been a while since I dyed my own hair and I feel like the roots turned out lighter than expected along with a couple random highlights that stayed blond when I was going for overall dark mahogany.
I still love the color blend though and will order again but I also ordered right before Thanksgiving and it took a long time to get the product. Might be the postal service to blame but it is worth noting.
Regardless I will be purchasing again.

I always worry my color will be too dark but I kid you not even just out of the shower my skin was glowing from finally having the right color in my hair.

Love the actual color and ease of use. Maybe a bit less packaging would make it more economical friendly. Smaller box and maybe through a little gift in instead. A new shampoo sample or something?

Different than the other options

I started with a different autoship hair color during the winter of last year (pre-corona). My hair dresser had gone away to Ireland for 3 months. Not long after she returned we were struck with quaratine here in the states. So I have been doing this for a while. She is still a very dear friend and I have seen her several times since her return and quaratine has loosened although she hasn't done my hair. Last time she said, "are you still using the same color that you were" I said "no I changed. They only had certain colors to choose from and I just couldn't find one I liked, one was too dark and the next closet seemed too light. But I think this one may not be just right either but it is custom and can be adjusted (and had planned to ask her opinion on what to tell them I needed to have it adjusted correctly)" but her reply was "no this one looks great, then she said " I am sorry but that other didn't. I can see the places in your hair where the color was wrong."
So no adjustment needed even though I was still a little leary and nervous that it wasn't 'right' she confirmed that it did in fact look good. So hair dresser approved.

I just colored my hair after I had my hair cut. It turned a Brassy color. Maybe next time, a more beige color. Im sure with shampooing it will tone down. I followed I instructions that were included. Thanks

So im the crazy box dye it will be ok type of person. It either goes horribly wrong or ends up washing out of my roots immediately. This crazy year has made it impossible to get to the salon every time my color is dull or my roots get out of hand. My sister told me about esalon and after the first kit I'm in love! I got salon results but still made that "I can do that at home" part of me extremely happy!

With COVID, I love the option to color my hair at home and with professional level products. It is very easy to use and easy to understand. My only dislike was the color. At my roots, the color was too strawberry/red. I want to be more light blonde, not strawberry blonde. If my color can be adjusted to help remove the reddish tones, I will order again.

Maybe a little too well, hair came out darker than anticipated, but my hair has always taken to color fairly easily and it's a nice deep winter color so it's good for now. I do wish it made my hair feel nicer (when I did the Feria box due there was this little pull additive they had you put in and it made my hair feel so so soft after dying).

The color turned out more red than I had expected, but that’s okay. I’m just glad to see a change in my hair color. The whole process did take a while but it was nice to have the instruction and the tools. I was a bit worry about my hair as I was washing out the dye, my hair felt very stiff and almost brittle like. However, when I was blow drying it, there was no damage to my hair and as it continued to air dry, it “soften” up. Overall, I pleased with my first experience with Esalon.

Comme ça fesait 8 mois que j’avais pas fait ma couleurs que j’avais une intoleréce et sensibilité au cuir chevelu à cause de l’ammoniaque auparavant je faisait que des colorations sans ammoniaque j’ai fait ma couleur que vous m’avez préparer soigneusement mais c’est horrible l’es tiraillement démangeaisons brûlure au niveau c’du cuir chevelu autrement la couleur et magnifique pour les prochaine commande savoir si je peux commander une couleur sans ammoniaque s’il vous plaît merci de votre compréhension

The color is nice. It's still a little off from what I want, but I'm not unhappy with it. My color almost always will become lighter and "brassier" looking. If this could be eliminated, it would be perfect.

I've used this product for my roots twice since the pandemic started. Application was easy, and the whole kit you receive is well-stocked with everything you'd need for a dye job. The first color wasn't a good match (eyeballed the color) and the second time it still wasn't a great match. Color did not work on my grey roots as I had hoped but for the price it was worth a try.

I rated this 3 stars the first time I used the product. My hair was too dark - the colorist tweaked my color and the match is better. My hair doesn't seem to be any worse for the wear using this color so that is a big plus. I do wish it imparted some multi-dimensional tones - it gives me a pretty flat color but there is some shine. I am rating it a 4 because other friends who use this color end up with beautiful results - my hair is more of a 3 with this color.

When the pandemic hit and we couldn't go to the hair salon I had to color my hair myself. I went to the drugstore and tried many different box colors. All of them did not work and wasted money and time. Then I tried esalon and will never again color my hair at the hair salon. Thank-you esalon.

I like the color match. It matched my natural color so well no one noticed I colored my hair. The downside is that even after multiple washes, the color is still bleeding onto my pillowcases. Additionally, during the color process, the instructions say to mix what’s left in the bottle with water and dump over your head. I did, but with short hair, it’s hard to mix all the color left with water. I ended up with big gloopy globs of color and then just water pouring over my head. It was a real mess. On a bright note, the color still looks good after a couple weeks. I’m overall happy with the results.

Although the color last longer without fading, it is quite expensive. I am 74 and color my hair myself. It is easy to use but I just can't afford touch-ups as often as required.
