I love the product; esalon colorists have matched my "before-gray" beautifully. But the instructions leave a lot to be desired. No reason is given for different instructions--apparently I'm supposed to spend $20 to color just my roots, now that I've been using esalon for a year. It would be nice if the instructions came with a paragraph explaining the changes.

My first delivery was too dark so I contacted esalon to adjust the formula. The first adjustment still had a little too much brown and purple. My second request has given me the perfect balance of red and brown for a great auburn color!

I really like my color and it is easy to change when I want a bit more red or want to go more brunette. My only complaint is that it is so difficult to get off of the scalp. I scrub and scrub in an effort to remove it. After a week or so, I finally feel that it is completely clean.

I am not a hair person! I just don't know how to do all that stuff but I'm telling you this was almost as easy as washing your hair, the results though were well beyond what I had ever expected, my Daughter who does know what she's doing had dyed my hair red I didn't want to do the upkeep of it so wanted to go back brown, well I've done this before at the salon and it's never easy because they can't take you from red back to brown in one process. Well shame on them because eSalon took me there no problem! I have a lot of grey now that I did not have then as well. I recommend this very much. What a fantastic product and experience!

The color was right on. Didn't look like a fake red head. Looked very natural. However, the grey came back almost immediately. Which was the main reason I bought the color in the first place. That's why I only gave 4 stars.

In the pass i tried your product but i noticed that was not covering totally my gray and I stopped using it, I continued with the store brand but my hair was falling off a lot and I decided to go back to esalon.
Now that I tried for the 2nd time, I notice my gray still not completely cover and I requested something more for stubborn gray. Im still waiting.

3rd order with leaks

My last orderer was the 3rd box in less than 6 months with seals broken and product leakage inside the box. I've used this service for several years & had great results until the last 6 months. Along with losing product, the color hasn't been consistent & has washed out of significantly size patches of hair within 2 or 3 washings.

Lovely colour but didn’t last as long as I’d hoped and much too fiddly to apply roots first then colour. I’ve also never seen so much hair dye on my bathroom tiles and I’ve been dying my hair for years! For me, it’s not worth an extra £15 more than a supermarket box dye.

I purchased my advised colour however when I used it I felt the coverage wasn't great. I am a brunette and have quite alot of greys for which I colour about every 3 weeks. At my roots the colour was alittle orange and the rest dark. Left on roots the recommended time and abit longer but didn't get the best result. Condition of my hair was great afterwards but not so great looking 😕

Originally I sent in pics of my current hair color (very dark brown almost black) and pictures of the color I wanted, a much lighter shade of brown like a honey brown. My custom color came in the mail labeled something like “golden brown” and I thought this is going to turn out nice then I dyed it and it literally looks like I didn’t, maybe one shade lighter at best if I’m in the sun I can notice a tad bit of brown. I even left the color in for an extra 15 minutes longer than the 35 minutes the instructions said. I went to change my next months custom color and again inserted pictures of the lighter brown I wanted but get an email saying “ previously colored hair can not be lightened”, well if I would have gotten the correct color hair dye sent to me the first time I guess I wouldn’t have this issue. I just went ahead and canceled because I’m not happy with the new options they gave me, stuck with the same color or just lighten the roots? No thanks.

Only my 3rd time coloring my hair, but I felt as though I should’ve kept it in longer then 30 minutes. There was still a lot of gray hair that I felt as though it didn’t even touch, although it was on my entire head. The hair in front is my problem area.

Das Schlimmste für mich sind rötliche Haare.
Daher habe ich explizit auf meine von Natur aus rotblonden Haare hingewiesen, und ganz klar geäußert, KEINEN ROTSTICH haben zu wollen,
Bekommen habe ich orangerote Haare. Leuchtend.
Kümmert nicht wirklich jemand. Es wurde versprochen, neue Farbe zu schicken, kam bis heute - drei Wochen später- nicht an.
Ich habe nachgefragt und werde ignoriert.

The color faded after a couple weeks

I loved the color initially. It was even looking and the perfect copper color. but after two weeks it’s brown again and my grow out still didn’t hold the dye so it’s also visible like it was prior. It just looks like it completely washed out and is back to the way it looked before I dyed it.

One of the hair color kits of 2 sent to me had leaked all over inside the package and I didn't notice it until I went to use it and therefore could not color my greys and when I tried to contact the company to get a replacement asap I was unable to contact anyone on chat or email. Very dissatisfied. I waited 20 mins on hold for chat and noone addressed me at all!

After the first kit I ordered didn't cover my greys (less than 20% of my hair so not a lot of grey to cover) they sent me another kit with a different formula for the roots and the lengths. However as there were different amounts of developer, the sun has lightened the top of my hair differently to the lengths and I now have a visible tide mark around the top of my head. It is too soon to dye my hair all over again so I'm using temporary gloss to try and blend it and then will likely have to go to a salon. I contacted the support team for advice on how to fix it and they didn't even respond. I have cancelled and would advise others to proceed with caution. I will say though I loved the colour both times I've used it although it didn't cover my fine greys at my temples either time.

Ich habe naturblonde Haare. Beim letzten Friseurtermin wurden meine spitzen heller gemacht und mein Ansatz dunkler. Somit hatte ich 3 verschiedene Haarfarben. Ich habe mir bei esalon neue Farbe bestellt, auch beschrieben das ich die hellen Haare von den Spitzen für den ganzen Kopf möchte (Fotos habe ich mit geschickt). Leider sind die Haare immer noch wie vorher nur ein ticken heller, trotzdem nicht das was ich mir von esalon gewünscht hatte. Schade...

Good coverage but colour not at all like expected

The hair dye covered my grey hairs well and evenly so coverage is good. However, I am very cool toned and ordered ‘Ash’ brown. I was expecting a shade of brown that was ashy (bear in mind my own hair tone has no warmth at all so didn’t warm up the colour in any way). My hair turned out super auburn/orangey which is not at all what I hoped for so overall, I am disappointed

Bonjour,
J'ai fait chatain cendré mais mes racines n'ont pas prises. C'est cuivré. Je ne sais pas si c'est parce que ça ne prend pas sur les cheveux blancs ou si c'est parce que je n'ai pas mis assez de couleur ?
Comme la couleur une fois mélangé avec le produit vire au vert, j'avais peur que ça vire au vert. Et peut être que j'en ai pas assez appliqué.

I’m a seasoned eSalon customer at this point with 25 color orders. I’m starting to doubt that any shade of blonde they send will ever turn out anything other than orange. Which make sense because every picture of a blonde on the website is the same orangey hue. I just want a cool tone, and adjustment after adjustment I just can’t get it with esalon. Probably great for anything other than blonde, but I’m about to give up and go back to paying hundreds. I’m giving one more adjustment a try and if it doesn’t turn out, as usual, I’m done. This has been so disappointing.

I have been very pleased with all kits except the most recent shipment. The color kept fizzing over. The lotions remained a dark brown, before applying my roots. It did not look the normal shade. Once applied, the color did not cover well at all. I read instructions as usual & proceeded to color my roots as soon as I mixed the solutions. Question: are you receiving payments for all of your color kits sent to me? My records show not! Please respond and provide a phone number. I loved how easy it was to mix the color but it was the wrong color. My hair is dark brown/black and the color was more of a milk chocolate. It also didn't cover a lot of the gray. Second shipment, the color was darker but not dark enough and again had the same issues with the grays. I sent my third shipment back and waiting on my refund.

Die Farbe an sich war schön, jedoch hat diese meine grauen Haare am Ansatz leider nicht abgedeckt (trotz längerer Einwirkzeit als zu dem Rest der Längen.
Das schaffen günstigere Drogerieprodukte deutlich besser.

I’m at a loss. I was very specific and what I said my problems were. I was very hopeful. Once again, yes, the brown and the light and brown from the sun came out a beautiful, dark, medium hash brown any hairs that were white, even softened beforehand and developer applied beforehand to open the pores and left it. Sit on longer as instructed for the white hair. Yep red! 👎I’d like my money back, but I’m certainly not getting any more.

I ordered 8n summer blonde to go from dark 🔵 blonde to a lighter blonde, I ended up with dark blonde with reddish tint, it darkened my hair color not lightened it!!!!

Please don’t waste your money. This is probably one of the worst hair dyes I’ve used. The bottles aren’t big enough to do your full head, the dye itself sets on your hair so it’s impossible to massage/ distribute evenly through the hair.

I am absolutely appalled by this dye! My ‘medium ash brown’ dye turned black, I’ve washed my hair 6 times in an attempt to fade it and now it is patchy and has chunks of black and chunks of a reddish brown. I’ve been home dying my hair for years and this is the worst dye I have ever used and will need a professional to sort!

I have used this twice now, and can say it is definitely not worth it. None of the times I managed to get an even colour on the length of my hair, despite following the instructions. The colour fades significantly after 5-6 washes, although chosen a permanent one. The only plus it has compared to the normal dye you would buy in a shop, is that when colour fades, it is a more natural look. I will definitely not try it a third time.

It’s a great product but it doesn’t cover the gray. The color so was matched with was lovely but it barely worked on my roots. The company sent me a replacement that was a darker color. I had the same problem! I followed the instructions to the tee. Unfortunately, it did not work. Nor did they stand by their 100% guarantee.
Bottom line… do not purchase if you expect the product to cover your gray roots!

I ordered dark brown. After following the time for both bottles, my grey is not covered. It is not white. But it is 80% white. So, the grey is not turning 100% brown. The result sadly is no different than store bought.

The colour didn't take to my greys. I had sent pictures in of my hair before and asked advice and stylist advised 6 (as chosen) would work. Left it on for the full time as per instructions. I had explained i wanted a root smudge, but there were no instructions for this part just apolication to roots only, if i had done this, i would have had a band, as i have highlights midlengths to ends, so i expected there to be instructions for blending. I had to do this by google and thankfully managed to successfully blend with no banding into my highlights but have been left with my greys still showing through on my roots. I sent a note through explaining all this and requested a refund as i have now had to book into a salon to sort it, but i have had no reply. Really dissapointing.

Très déçu jai commandé un chatain foncé irosé violet.

I received my order after more than a month, and the box was completely torn apart and damaged as well as the supplies inside. When I contacted customer support before I receive the package, they told me that I would have to talk to my local postal carrier and that it wasn’t their problem. If you’re going to be a hair product shipping service you probably should have reliable shipping. They did offer to send another box but at that point I wasn’t interested. It’s unfortunate because I had heard good things about esalon and was excited to try them.

I chose this color in the believe that it would match my own dishwater ashy medium blonde. It was the coolest medium blonde in the chart. It has a distinct red tint though, which made my regrown roots seem even more grey than before. Needs a lot of adjustment to fit my natural haircolor and conceal my greys

paper cap on developer still not firmly attached

I have used these products for many years now. However, in the last year the paper seal on the developer has often lacked a tight seal causing the products to develop too fast once mixed. Recently, my formula was changed to develop slower and adjust darker to prevent it turning red and washing out after one or two washes. This has helped, but the last bottle of developer was not tightly sealed which once again affected the final color. When I contact the company I am told that the products are acting as expected, but having used this for years, I can see a change when the cap does not come tightly sealed.

I chose the demi-permanent hair color and while it gave a nice color for about a week, it quickly faded. I wash my hair every 2 days and after 8 washes, it significantly lost color and my old highlights started showing through. I'm going to try the ammonia free permanent color next and hopefully get better results.

I had high hopes for this product. It definitely delivered in being the most gentle hair color I’ve ever used. No bad smell, relatively easy to apply and gentle on my hair. However, I was not satisfied with the root coverage. Most of my roots were still gray even after strictly following the instructions. The color I chose, a dark brown/purple tone had way too much red which led to brassy color where I part my hair on top. Undecided if I will continue to use this product.

Colour is lovely but my greys always come through no matter how little hair I colour and how many parting I do. It nevers cover it
